This painting is part of a series of works questioning life, mortality, love and in general why we are all here. I often wonder why we were placed on this earth and why we exist at all, personally I believe I am here ultimately to help others but when this becomes very difficult to achieve or near impossible I start to question my own mortality. I see these paintings as an emotional response to life and my attachment to it as a mortal being. Especially since my operation on my arm which has allowed me to continue creating what I love and other moments in life like the time my daughter was suffering from febrile convulsions. I was terrified and didn't know what to do, I prayed that she would survive each time and thought 'why would God want to take away this precious human being that brings so much joy to our lives?'. It was only later that I was told febrile convulsions are unlikely to be life threatening but I didn't know that at the time. At the time I made a vow to God or whoever would listen, I made a promise to help others and be a better person to those around me if he kept my daughter safe and happy. It was like a deal between me and the 'man' upstairs. I am still fulfilling that promise and hopefully bringing joy to others lives with my paintings, adding beauty to the world when someone needs that same colour and light in their life too. - This painting is on paper.
