About The Artwork
This acrylic painting is part of a series started in 2018 when visiting museum exhibitions and watching the onlookers as well as the artworks. It portrays a man watching Landscape, a painting made by Francis Bacon in 1978. It was on show at the Centre Pompidou in January 2020.The painting he is watching belongs to the Esther Grether family collection. the series was inspired to me after I visited the PIcasso exhibit in Paris in 2018. I entitled this new series "Les Regardeurs (the onlookers)" and coined the word after Marcel Duchamp's saying: "Ce sont les regardeurs qui font les tableaux" (It is the onlookers who make the paintings")
