About The Artwork

Most of us know the legend of the Phoenix Bird rising from it's ashes to a new life. It's easy to understand the allegory's implication, of how life and relationships can wear us down and sometimes burn us out. Then it's up to us to renew our energy in one way or another, Hospitals and Physicians have recently begun to realize that hanging Fine Art compositions on their walls facilitates healing to both the body and the mind. Studies have show that having fine art around makes the mind more resilient and can actually stave off Alzheimer disease. This painting with its vista of the mountains and lakes below, the Phoenix birds gliding peacefully in the sky attempts to visually show such a place that can lead to renewal. I hang this print in my house for this and other reasons. It's a Spiritual investment into my own well being.

Painting and sculpting for over 50 years. Started in the early 1960's. Joined the Merchant Marines in my early twenties and set off to paint and draw around the world. Hitchhiked around Europe and Morocco for about a year and met wonderful artists in many places. Highlight was visiting Salvador Dali at his home in Spain. Back in the 70's it was much safer to hitchhike and camp out as you journeyed and I ventured around for about a year meeting wonderful young artists. Through the years, I've worked many jobs, in factories, offices etc. Eventually became a general contractor, however, the one thing I always did was keep my love of painting and sculpting. Had many art shows in the Los Angels area for about 30 years, managed to break new ground every once in a while, get acclaimed in the Art Realm for 15 seconds by the media, then relegated back onto the treadmill. Such is the life of artists who are in it for the Long Run. It's Cool, Is what it is and I've no complaints.
