About The Artwork
This is one of a pair of paintings (the other, Garden II) that consists of three panels with the center panel floating above the other two panels. Like the Expulsion painting, Garden I explores the separation of man and nature. I use traditional media consisting of watercolor, acrylic paint, chalk and oil pastel, combined with photography on paper. My process involves repeating the creation and destruction of images in layers that represent the struggle in life. It also symbolizes the marriage of opposites -- natural vs. technical, hand-made vs. machine made.
