About The Artwork

"Her Steady Horizon - Sea V2" is the third in a triptych (Shore, Surf, Sea) depicting a 1950s woman, fully dressed, slowing walking into the ocean. The first two of my the triptych are based on a series of haunting and beautiful photographs printed from found negatives of unknown origin. (The Instagram hashtag #findthegirlsinthenegative was created in an effort to find who the women and photographer are.) I composed the third image to complete the journey of this woman walking from the shore out into the ocean, always headed towards the horizon, and we get closer to her the further she goes, not knowing if she ever turns back. To me, it spoke to the feminist's journey: moving, changing, not always hopeful, but looking forward. "Her Steady Horizon - Sea V2" has been featured: - Lunenburg Art Gallery Society Group Show 2023 The "Her Steady Horizon Triptych" has been showcased: - Petite Riviere Vinyard Solo Show, Petite Riviere NS (Oct 2019) - Making Waves Solo Show, DesBrisay Museum, Bridgewater NS, (June 2019) - KEW Gallery Solo Show, Dartmouth NS (2018) - Featured in @CBCarts Instagram 2018

Welcome to my World of Women and Waves! Ready to dive into a world of seascapes and real women enjoying whatever they damn well please? I'm an oil painter who loves color and movement and all things beachy! I'm a feminist with 3 awesome daughters, 2 chaotic pets, and 1 talented, author husband. I drink a ton of black coffee, and walk a bunch of dogs to clear my head. I find myself thinking "Whattheeverlovin'fuck?" a lot, sooo...learning to meditate, keeping the gratitude journal, living with "progress not perfection" as a motto in my studio! My art concerns: I was raised in a small village at the edge of a fierce sea and to me, sweeping ocean horizons speak of escape, change, and freedom. My figurative and portrait work tend to invoke similar themes through feminism, climate, and immigration. In all of my work I am constantly looking to capture the energy, movement, and intensity of our ever-shifting world and the women in it!
