Painting Forest is the first painting of the Trees Series, which scopes five large scale paintings. The series was among nominated works for Essl Art Award 2013 in Ljubljana, Slovenia and was exhibited in Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova in Ljubljana. Nature here represents a double role: as the nature in our daily life, and as the nature that we have separated from the everyday, and where we go to only occasionally for relaxation and leisure activities. The referential model, stemming from nature, serves as a starting point for the questions of perception. The Trees Series is exposing a feeling, a 'sensation'. Nature, that has, throughout the history of painting always held an important place, here plays an important, but not the main role. Combination of representative image and an abstract form – at the symbolic level – merge the natural and the technological, daily and occasional, banal and complex... Using acrylic paints was a decision which suggested me to paint quickly and merely without thinking, being intouch with the image, sensation and materiality of the paint. Being present.

Anamari Hrup is the art and program manager of the interdisciplinary project Abandoned Plants Sanctuary. Together with Eva Jera Hanžek, she has been leading the project and creating workshops, events, exhibitions, and domestic and international collaborations in the Green Refuge mobile greenhouse at Krater creative laboratory in the Bezigrad district of Ljubljana. Her body of work covers the field of painting, drawing, and illustration, combining ecological guidelines and themes, which are already implemented in the project Abandoned Plants Sanctuary. In her works, she develops and upgrades them into a whole, in the mediums of paintings, drawings, and illustration. In her personal work, through an intimate and personal relationship with the above media, she explores the field between individual and collective, between formal techniques and informal approaches. In her work, she subtly incorporates current social events, the center of which is her attitude towards nature, sustainable way of living, and the position of the individual in current socio-ecological circumstances.
