This piece is part of my abstract biome series. Inspired by red and white blood cells from SEM images, I reduce the microscopic image to simple line forms, suggesting the nature of attack or confrontation, while pulling the piece together in colorful harmony. This painting is done on 100% Coventry rag paper, manufactured in the United States and painted with permanent pigmented drawing inks in conjunction with Golden's fluid acrylics.

Ali Herrmann is a mixed media painter, colorist and science lover, whose work explores cellular structures as an origin into her abstract artworks. Creating what she terms ‘micro-biome landscapes,’ Herrmann uses SEM images and organic shapes as inspiration to explore concepts of blood, bacteria, fungi, and unicellular structures within her boldly colorful, abstract artworks. Exploring themes of repetition, rhythmic orders, geometric shapes, and chaos-order theory, Ali brings attention to nature's details that are often overlooked.
