About The Artwork

"Lingerie" is part of the painting series "Luiza's Mirror" collection exhibited in Tokyo, Japan. The theme : the endlessly fascinating enigma of the Femme Enfant (woman child). In my art I’ve tried to create a personal hermetic language (fr “language”) that can directly relate to my state, my experiences, dreams, hopes and disillusions. The Femme Enfant is naturally idealistic. Her world consisting of perfect beauty and love. But while she grows up, she constantly faces disappointment which finally leads her to dissociation with the world that surrounds her and the creation of her own private world which is equally real as the mirror’s reflection. Because of her experiences, her new world isn’t as pure and good as the one from her childhood imagery. In order to function the Femme Enfant has to put on masks and use coping strategies turning her sometimes into a Femme Fatale. The paradox of the Femme Enfant lies in her dichotomy: she is grown up so she has to perform grownup activities, she even takes pride in being viewed as “strong” but in the depth of her heart she is longing for unconditional care. The consciousness of this fact leads to her passive force of withdrawal in her hieratic pose which will always be a visible reminder of her power and worth. In an increasingly rational world, the figures reflected in Luiza’s mirror seem to be souls accidentally dressed in delicate bodies. Women seemingly young- but actually ageless. Seemingly fragile- but full of royal dignity and force. Figures lacking dynamic- but full of expression through their gaze, positioning of arms, lips, hair. The world of Luiza’s women has nothing accidental in it, nothing chaotic. It surprises us with the purposefulness of giving us a specific impression, an unmistakable emotion. Many of the characteristics belong to the artist herself, so in that way we can say that each of the paintings can be her auto portrait. The dynamic act of painting in the technique of alla prima gains an extra meaning here: we can see concrete, seemingly uncongealed effects of work. The combination of acrylic and oil paint allows to emphasize details: a ribbon, reflection of light in the eyes, freshly combed hair. Moreover this technique allows the works to vibrate with almost fauvist colors. Colors that always hold a symbolic meaning and undiscovered mystery. The mirror is a symbol of repetitiveness or an effort to stop time. Is it possible to define Luiza’s model of a woman? Yes - it is a kind of beauty that takes its origin from Byzantine and European esthetic. In the same time tough, through simplified shapes, strong contouring and decentralized compositions - we can see the impact of Japanese esthetic.
