Inspired by the idea of encountering ones true self and nature, this painting portrays the shattered and distorted duality of the human psyche, one side being the mind, whose nature is always chattering and misleading, unless tamed, on the other hand is the intrinsic and innate quality of consciousness better known as the heart. This image intends to capture a moment of confrontation between the mind and the heart through the facial features of an undistracted, meditative, prohetic and clairvoyant man. The division and duality is clearly manifested in both the assymmetrical distribution of the features and the background colors within the defined space. Assembled together, these elements form a loud and yet subtle expression, with an undertone of suffering. The use of gesso and thick acrylic gives the image its intended complexity which serves the initial concept well. The texture formation helps highlight the harshness of the eternal struggle.
