About The Artwork

This is the third piece in my 'future skylines' series. The series in general explores the world we will leave behind for the next generation and uses different striking colour palates to convey emotions and whimsical line drawing to create details for the viewer to find and study. The main inspiration here is the environment, extreme weather and the natural world taking back what we have stolen as a species. I would like viewers to find a sense of loneliness and serenity from the work and pleasure from the relaxing colour scheme chosen but also a kind of anger - the finger of blame is pointed towards capitalism and religion for damaging our society. The image is created by layering different viscosities of watered down acrylic on a watercolour base. Fire is used to bubble this paint and make it flake in places creating texture and damaging the canvas lightly causing it to brown and stretch. This process was chosen to mimic the way capitalism has damaged the fabric of our society. During my travels in Australia I was lucky enough to experience a fantastic electrical storm which silently passed through the skyline of Brisbane city without a drop of rain at the end of wildfire season. Caused by charged particles in the air from the fires. The scene here is loosely reminiscent of that scene which was burned into my memory forever.

Shipping & Returns

Artist from Yorkshire UK with a love for travelling and animals and the natural world. I am a cynic and thoroughly disillusioned with the world we live in but find joy in nature and creativity. I consider myself a left wing humanist and I am interested in art as a means of protest particularly against capitalism and the destruction of our planet. I am very inspired by my time in Australia and New Zealand and like to show respect to other cultures in my work. My style is varied. I love abstract works and like to experiment with texture but animals also feature heavily in my work.
