The Memory is the Consolation Painting

This work is part of a new series involving expressive portraiture. This piece is about memories of people that we carry around with us. Looming in back of our minds and still very close, we never get over loss, we just learn to live without. I was somewhat inspired by a Chagall painting called "Birthday". In that work the main figure moves around with a floating figure above her head. Dark purple provides a perfect background, suggesting a warm night atmosphere, but not total darkness. I chose a gestural application of metallic acrylic inks as the basis for the heads. On top of that, I drew the facial structures with acrylic paint, and let the ink suggest the expressions. In between each application is a layer of clear acrylic, that enhances depth of the image, and adds to the glossy surface, I hope the viewer is inspired by the work. This painting has a UV acrylic varnish to protect the image.
