I studied visual communication in the Latvian Academy of Art. My education has allowed me to master the classical means of creating art, to study in the worshops of adept professors, to fully shape my technical skills. I have always found it important to take into account the contemporary language of art, and how it speaks about the current, while maintaining the traditional ways of working in figural painting. To be an artist is my way of being, my understanding of things and occurrences, it has been present throughout my entire consciousness. I am the one I am. I have to say that the time designated for painting quickly fills up with everyday worries, which then give space to the gloom that this routine brings. The physical realization of a painting suffers under the current situation, which is capable of getting in the way of even the most meticulously scheduled day. I don’t hope, I know that in every art piece the observer seeks themselves. Through my work someone receives more than an aesthetic experience, the opportunity to see their own understanding, knowledge and perception. There is no specific point of a beginning. An idea can flash while I offer a glass of water to my child, then, it takes shape. It becomes a assignment, a question that demands realization. It lives its own life on the canvas. Sometimes the image takes shape like by its own volition, sometimes it refuses to be molded according to my script, in which case I must respectfully pause and step back. I am inspired by the purity of form and conviction. I observe and find inspiration in the people around me that allow themselves to be interpreted in the answers to my questions. My work is an indispensable part of me. The dominant aspect fluctuates, as worries for my family blanket my creative process. This happens constantly, independent from the brush physically touching the canvas. I can analyze the daylight reflecting on my family’s face and see the strain in it.
