About The Artwork

One of my very first abstract expressionist works. Roughly every 2,150 years, the sun's location in front of the background stars – at the time of the March, or vernal, equinox – moves in front of a new zodiacal constellation. The Age of Aquarius begins at the point when the sun is no longer in front of the constellation Pisces at the time of the March equinox. I have created this painting in 2008, being inspired by the Mayan calender "The Tzolkin". The Mayans were, like many others cultures, very much interested in astrology and maths. They created a calender based on their findings and pointed that 2012 marked the end of the cycle, meaning a new time would come. I find it so fascinating that these cultures did not know of their existence, but they did buil similar structures and got to some astrological dates that are very close to each other. i created this work after i got inspired by a documentary about Fibonacci and learned new things about maths and proportians. In this work you will find hints to Fibonacci and the golden ratio. There is water coming from another whirly dimension in the top of the work. Also there is a face with eyes, a nose and lips to discover in it. This is also one of my personal favourite works.

Dominic Brown is a visual artist from Rijswijk, The Netherlands. The archaeological sites, drawings and symbols he discovers on his journeys to far away places form his primary source of inspiration. Much of his work draws on the 5000 year old murals and hieroglyphs he has visited while traveling through Egypt. His inspiration, however, is not only fueled by the Egyptian sights he has seen. Early in life, Dominic found himself inspired by the rich Turkish culture and Greek mythology. As he got older he also developed a fascination for the Mayan mysteries and Incan civilizations. He sees the eccentric masks from Africa as a way of communicating with the past. He believes that the emotion or message that an artist wanted to express many hundreds or thousands of years ago could not have been transferred more vividly than through a painting, drawing or a symbol. The lines and colors used by the artist elicit a certain emotion from the audience. With the use of his own lines and colors, Dominic, too, seeks to communicate with people throughout the world ." According to him, something that does not have a time or language barrier will never perish.
