This painting was inspired by the cold and desolate winters here in the Northeast, where snow falls and seems so beautiful, cold and fresh at first, but then as it stays frozen on the ground and on the trees through the long, cold months, one begins to feel a loss and longing for some bright, vibrant break of color. This painting is about the deep feeling of melancholy that occurs during those long, gray winter months.
