About The Artwork

This piece is one out of a series of 10 titled: erbarme dich. The main theme of the whole series is human vulnerability and strength. It deals with hardships of life that all men have to deal with and their coping. Finding and/of regaining strength amidst of turmoil. It's work on linen cloth that's not framed but hangs as a tapestry on the wall. It's made in acrylic ink but also contains pieces of newspaper. I hope that the viewer finds some recognition on an emotional level when confronted with this work.

I am a Dutch female artist. From childhood on I loved drawing and always felt an urge to create. My first overwhelming experience of art was in front of Picasso's Guernica Museum Reina Sofía in Madrid in my early twenties. I slowly grew in the realisation that I wanted to become a painter because of the urge I kept feeling to express myself via the medium of visual art. In my work I explore the human condition and nature. It's not an explicit message that I want to convey, but a general existential feeling. It's about the delicate line between blossoming, decay and coping and the factors that contribute in that proces. Also I hope to convey some of the mystery that s surrounds all life. My style is somewhere within the range of semi-figurative to (semi-) abstract. I work with all sorts of media, often mixed media. I like to experiment with different kind of techniques. I work mainly with acrylic- and oilpaint, sometimes combined with some form of collage and sometimes I finish it off with a resin topcoat. In my paintings I want to convey the existential feeling of being human and the natural environment that surrounds us with its beauty and threats to it.
