About The Artwork

The meaning behind of the artwork - Optimism / Release— is both the result and the opposite of his previous series Autism. Optimism has a utopian element attached to it and has a more positive direction, the overall idea from this artwork was from the previous title- Self harm , “Self-harm” is inspired by his own son’s classmate. It was the first piece of Chong’s series: Autism. Chong saw his son’s classmate wearing a helmet in his classroom. Out of curiosity, he asked he teacher. It was due to the child’s frustration and ill emotions, which caused him to bang his head against the wall whenever he was upset. The helmet was used to protect him from self-inflicted harm. Over a year , Chong realized the important fact , with good treatment to the autistic kid, they will improve their behavior , so he created this piece of painting called – Release means toward more positive area. As you can see the painting of the lady is carrying a scissor to get ready to cut off the sling, obviously is to release the paint.
