Prana Painting

*Displayed colors of painting are incredibly muted from actual painting, currently inquiring to Saatchi on how to fix this. I began a piece that embodies the ornate nature of design, while continuing my mandala series of Buddhist topic artworks. This new piece, “Prana”, utilizes ornate designs, which would normally be used to accent graphic design works, and sometimes even artwork, and turn them into the main subject of the piece. Like the word, Prana, which means “Beating of the heart and breathing. Prana enters the body through the breath and is sent to every cell through the circulatory system”, the piece expresses that without design, and art could not be possible. No matter if it is abstract or precisely executed, design is an element that keeps the function of art living on, and without design, and then how could one believe that art actually exists? Throughout the piece, you will notice different styles of accents that comprise the whole, and with the execution of color, and of mediums, it gives life to the piece, just as the concept of Prana gives life to the body. I utilized iridescent and interference paints in order to change the visual perception of the piece from different angles, and different lighting, as art is not meant to be interpreted from one static thought process, so I believe it should not be forced to be one static image, either. Iridescent and interference paints help me achieve this, but also the optical effects of color placement increase movement within the painting, also.
