"ROSAS 1" Photograph - Limited Edition of 10

David Austin is a Franco-British photographer and filmmaker based in Avignon, Provence. Self-taught since childhood, he spent 18 years directing Creative Pictures before dedicating himself fully to fine art photography and filmmaking as an independent artist.
His photographic work explores the female form in motion — through water, through air, through light. Working without AI and without body retouching, David creates large-format artworks printed on canvas, each signed, numbered on the canvas, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. His editions are strictly limited, ranging from 1/5 to 1/10.
David works with his models under image rights contracts that include a participatory revenue share: each model receives a percentage of every sale, reflecting a commitment to ethical and collaborative practice that is rare in contemporary photography.
Beyond photography, his practice extends to culinary art photography — where he applies the same cinematic eye to his own creations as a passionate amateur chef — and to documentary filmmaking, crafting 4K cinema-quality films for wine estates across the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
His work has been exhibited in three shows in the South of France (2025), featured on the cover of Zoemag (October/November 2025), and published in L'Oeil de la Photographie.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I photograph the female body the way a painter approaches a landscape — searching for the instant where light, movement, and form converge into something that transcends the subject itself.
Water is my favourite element: it distorts, it reveals, it transforms. A body underwater becomes sculpture. A body in the air becomes architecture. A body against light becomes pure geometry.
I work without artificial intelligence and without body retouching. What you see is what existed — a real moment, a real person, a real collaboration between the model and myself. The imperfections are part of the truth.
Each edition is strictly limited. I produce between 5 and 10 prints per image — no more. When the edition is complete, it is complete. This is not a commercial decision; it is an artistic one.
My models are not passive subjects. They are collaborators, and they are compensated as such — including a share of every sale. This is, I believe, the only honest way to work.
