Glen Marston Artist printmaker Glen Marston was born in East London, works in East London and now lives in Sidmouth, Devon. Born in to a working class family, with profound dyslexia, he sees making art as a journey of life. An artist and printmaker to his bones; the medium has always inspired him. ‘You have to know the process to let it help make work that you hope to own.’ Glen always work in series, not necessarily additions, but mainly one offs and variables using the print process. For this series of work Glen’s starting point was to cut lino blocks of faces and a found picture frame. The picture frame has nine spaces that he places faces in, that makes up a group of characters. His lino cuts influenced by emoji's and characters are from people around him, in the news, TV characters or famous historic icons. From which he uses lino cuts to print simple out lines. These faces have expressions, happy, sad, screaming, shouting, positive and negative attitudes. He starts with fifteen sheets of paper, printing on all of them with nine framed pictures. He continues to work on them using different colours and stages of printing, developing them from fifteen pictures that are all same, to fifteen individual pictures with similar elements that are more like paintings or mono types. Within his pieces of art work he has ideas of mood, expression and movement, a visual response to his feelings and emotions. Expression and movement are what he sees as the outcome of the piece, with the ingredients to be interpreted by the viewer Current work on regularly updated on Glens Instagram Education: 1980-82 Foundation Course, East Ham Technical College, London 1982-85 BA (Hons) Fine Art, Portsmouth Polytechnic 1987-89 MA(RCA) Printmaking, Royal College of Art, London Website: www.artistsuel
