About The Artwork

Climbing To The Stars is an expressionistic view of a space shuttle entering orbit around the earth. The space shuttle is no longer part of NASA's fleet but it played a vital role in the colonization of space. I consider the shuttle a space age work horse. It brought the Hubble telescope into orbit, brought materials to build the space station and launched many satellites into orbit. I believe America is indebted to the shuttle program for expanding our adventures into space.

I am an artist. My medium is glass. I think about glass as the mantle of the earth with an infinity of discoveries as vast and limitless as space. I choose to discover these wondrous things and express them in glass. I look at my work as a collection of discoveries. Stained glass artist Christopher Foster established his first studio in New York City in 1965. He is now located in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Christopher personally designs every work of stained glass that comes from his studio. All his works are fabricated using traditional tools and the finest materials. His numerous commissions, many from repeat clients, are a testament to his dedication and determination to create fine pieces of enduring artistic beauty. Christopher is from Mount Vernon, New York and grew up in Port Washington, Long Island. At the age of 15 he decided to become an artist. After graduation from high school he studied drawing and painting at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Geneva Switzerland. Coming back from Europe he studied at the Art Students League in New York and then at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. His courses included drawing, painting and etching. Christopher began stained glass as a hobby in 1963. By 1965 it had become his full time profession. His first commission was creating a skylight window for a brownstone on New York's East Side. An ongoing flow of commissions has followed over the years. He moved to Newport, Rhode Island in 1979 where he established his reputation as a fine stained glass artist, dividing his time between creating new windows and restoring old ones. Many of the restorations were in historic churches and mansions. His new works include large scale windows in churches, businesses and private homes. In 1992 he relocated his studio to Providence, Rhode Island. In 2003 he purchased a mill building in Lincoln, Rhode Island to accommodate his expanding business.
