Nikolaus Weiler lives and works as a freelance sculptor in Berlin since 1993. The focus of his work is the construction of space and bodies from and to all sides. The aim is a universal and objective sculpture in the field of tension between dynamics, movement and change. The spatial sculptures consist of different materials (metal, wood or glass), which complement and expand each other in their properties. The all-dimensional sculptures are a special kind. They are created in a constructive development process of spaces and bodies that expand in all directions inwards and outwards into the surroundings. An all-dimensional sculpture can be presented in different ways and thus change its spatial appearance and physical expression in a lively way. It can be weightless, static, dynamic or architectural. Technique of metal - wood constructions The metal molds are laser-cut and shaped using bending devices. Many wooden parts are fitted into the metal molds and glued to plywood substructures. This prevents cracking and warping of the wood in the rigid metal frame. Wood and metal constructions are firmly and stably bonded with special adhesives. In addition, the metal sheets are secured and anchored in the wood with special countersunk rivets (almost invisible). All surfaces are finely sanded and primed with linseed oil varnish and shellac. Finally, they are preserved and finished with Renaissance polishing wax.
