About The Artwork

I have been on a journey, following a sea of troubles within our world. When I look at war and suffering within photojournalists work, I travel there in my imagination and feel despair. I have tried to create my own reaction to the places they have taken me to. While creating this piece called 'Cloud', I was inspired by Gerhard Richter and Marlene Dumas 'The image as burden' - exhibition Tate Modern April 2015. I also took inspiration from the poet Takashi Tanemori (poem Below) Our ebbing souls Cling to that lonely sky; we try in vain to escape this sea of flames Taken from: The blade of grass in a dreamless field I was also influenced within my research and referencing by the following people (in order of working time over a 3 month period while creating this collection): William Shakespeare, Norman Cousins, Charles Dickens, Woodrow wilson, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Aristotle Onassis, Franklin Roosevelt, Banksy, Emily dickinson, Malala Yousafzai, 9/11, Hiroshima, George Lucas, Gerhard Richter, Hayao Miyazaki, Thomas Fuller, Mother Teresa, Gandi, Pope Fransis, Tracey Emin, Marlene Dumas, Isaac Newton. Cloud - exhibition 'Post Action Reaction' - Manchester Art School (Alumni award - fineart) 2015

Nellie Shepherd is one of the most creative, ART event designers in England, and certainly has the experience and clients to warrant this title. Nellie has created Art event installations for Angelina Jolie, Jk Rowling, Madonna and many other celebrities. Thanks to her formal training in both Fine Art and Drama and her theatrical background performing in London’s West End, Nellie's designs are highly theatrical; combining drama with art to create her trade mark “Wonderland Installations”. It all started with Nellie’s Art Class, which was born in the kitchen but quickly grew into a gymnasium in the heart of Camden Town in London, where Nellie and her artistic friends created art workshops. Making headlines; numerous TV appearances; and raising thousands of pounds for children's charities, Nellie’s Art Class became a sensation attracting children from all walks of life. Richard Curtis, Lucien Freud, Jonathan Ross, Bob Geldolf, Lulu Guinness and many other celebrities sent their children and grandchildren to be inspired by Nellie’s creative talents. Before long Nellie was teaching her own brand of art and drama to people of all ages. Nellie also started to create and run art parties in her Art Studios in Camden & Notting hill each one more spectacular and extravagant than the last, and quickly established her reputation as second to none. Even the saatchi brothers offered go into business with nellie but she decided to go it alone! On the back of her success, Penguin commissioned Nellie to write a series of books specialising in children's creativity: she now has seven books published by Penguin’s DK: My Art/Animal/Puppet/Picture/Christmas/Ultimate Art Class, and (her award winning) My Party Art Class. Each of these have been published internationally, and translated into numerous languages. Nellie now spends her time working on bespoke event installations all over the world and private art commisions. Nellie Shepherd's Studio based in Cheshire, has just started to share with Saatchi Art, some of her works in print runs and originals, so that you can have a little bit of Nellie's creativity on your wall at home!
