Contact us.Alex Pascual is a contemporary artist whose trajectory has been shaped by experiences in Barcelona, London and Copenhagen. Working primarily in coloured pencil, his drawings explore memory, solitude and psychological ambiguity through the human figure and intimate domestic spaces.
Rather than describing a specific narrative, the work lingers in uncertainty. Figures appear present yet distant, at times dissolving into their surroundings; domestic interiors become spaces of psychological withdrawal — quiet enclosures set apart from the noise of everyday life.
Alongside his figurative work, Pascual turns his attention to unoccupied domestic spaces: kitchens, laundry rooms, tables and the ordinary objects around which everyday life is organised. Even in the absence of the figure, traces of human presence remain — in accumulated clothes, prepared food, furniture and repeated household rituals.
Pascual works from both observation and memory. Observation provides structure and a point of departure, while working from memory allows him to distance himself from reality, letting forms fade, deform and distort much as memory itself does. A drawing often begins with a fleeting image, gesture or moment of ordinary tension and is built slowly over time, allowing forms to shift repeatedly between presence and absence before the work is resolved.
Each piece is patiently layered in coloured pencil, occasionally combined with acrylic and oil-based media. Pascual favours removal and omission over accumulation: areas are obscured, softened or left unresolved, echoing the way memory preserves certain details while allowing others to disappear. The result inhabits a fragile boundary between presence and absence, intimacy and detachment.
