About The Artwork

"Sublime Contours" is a captivating charcoal drawing that portrays a nude woman posing with her back turned towards the viewer. Executed with skilled precision, this composition explores the power of form, light, and shadow to evoke a sense of mystery and intrigue. The central focus of the drawing is the woman's figure, delicately captured in charcoal. Every curve and line is meticulously rendered, showcasing the artist's attention to detail. The woman's back is gracefully arched, accentuating the elegance of her posture. The artist skillfully captures the subtle undulations of her spine and the gentle sway of her hips, highlighting the natural beauty of the human form. The use of charcoal creates a striking contrast between light and shadow. The artist expertly employs different shades of black and gray to capture the play of light on the woman's skin. The interplay of light and shadow adds depth and dimension to the drawing, accentuating the contours of the woman's back and creating a sense of depth and three-dimensionality. The absence of facial features in the drawing allows the viewer to focus solely on the woman's physicality. This intentional omission adds an air of anonymity, inviting the viewer to project their own emotions and narratives onto the artwork. It creates a sense of intrigue and allows for a more universal interpretation. The simplicity of the charcoal medium enhances the raw and intimate nature of the drawing. The monochromatic palette, devoid of color, heightens the focus on the form and composition. The texture and softness of charcoal strokes bring a tactile quality to the artwork, further emphasizing the artist's mastery in capturing the subtleties of the human figure.

Horse racing has become a big part of Garth’s repertoire having previously completed a commission for Hamilton Racecourse where he created an oil painting for each suite. His pen and ink racehorse drawings are a different take on the theme and captures the essence of the racers. Garth has been drawing inspiration from his local area and has painted scenes from the North York Moors and Yorkshire coast. The iconic Roseberry Topping is included this selection as it can be seen on his hometown walks. Garth works in oils, pen and ink and pastel.
