Paint by archive photo) beautiful Nikolaev Chain Bridge in Kiev that was destroy after First World War in 1920. Interesting moment in history of Kiev city: how was build this the mid-forties of the XIX century, British engineer Charles Vignolle and his local colleagues P. Melnikov and S. Kerbedza developed a plan for the construction of the first capital Nikolaev chain bridge in Kiev. Emperor Nicholas I himself gave the go-ahead to the implementation of the work, in honor of which the construction got its name. On August 30, 1848, the foundation stone was laid in the foundation of the future bridge. All metal beams for construction were made in Birmingham, England. From there they were transported through Liverpool on 16 vessels to Odessa, and then sent to Kiev by oxen. The structure was unique: the world's first six-span bridge over a pond of this size! Built in the style of English Gothic, it became the hallmark of the city.
