About The Artwork
This painting was inspired by the Solar Eclipse that occurred today August 21st, 2017. I was able to witness this rarely visible phenomenon in the western United States. The powerful and brief change in the atmosphere was deeply impacting. The light was soft like a filtered lens as it cast over the hills and buildings. The neutral and earth tone color palette evokes the experience of warmth and darkness merging. I felt a surreal sensation of everything being temporarily lifted from its place, like pieces of floating glass. The larger than life female figure is centrally imposed within the environment experiencing both light and darkness at once.
