About The Artwork

I got inspired by Chaconne, No 2 in E minor by J.S. Bach, the German composer. Whenever I listen to this music, I feel grief with beauty and death. During the creation of this work, I listened to the music and started several sketches, with pencil on paper, and I made a rough gestural sketch like a conductor using charcoal on a canvas. As a medium of expression, I applied acrylic paint over the sketch to express my emotional feelings about the music. As a visual element, I used part of the grand piano from the above scene in combination.

Rosa Young (born in S. Korea) is a British visual artist, educator, curator, and professional musician, who makes paintings, sculptures, digital images, and music performances. She has over 25 years of experience in teaching art fields, such as portfolio preparation for higher education in Art and Design, Architecture, and art scholarships in London UK. In terms of her creativity, she got inspired by classical music, and her quest is to develop ways of integrating different musical parameters into a visual format. Her explorations have been made through a series of drawings, paintings, sculptures, installations, and Digital Images via video and computer with musical performances. Each way of working is not just an end in itself but becomes a complex layering of individual characteristics – these layers are then synchronized again producing different modulations, rhythms and notations. The works become a fusion of light, shadow, movement and music, i.e. ‘Drawing in Space’. She is used to making decisions and concentrating on certain centres of orientation. She exploits the intuitive while working within a rigid system (the musical interpretation) bringing and presenting a new freedom. Her ideas are complex in terms of their sequence and superimposition.
