Prince Siddhartha Painting

During the 1990s, I learned about Buddhism and Vipassana meditation through my work as an English language editor of several books on Buddhism. This led to my illustrating a book chronicling the aspiring Buddha´s great efforts to attain the perfection of the virtues necessary to reach Buddhahood. Since that time, I have painted many images of the gentle Buddha. This print is of an original painting on stone from an island in Lake of the Woods, Ontario, Canada. In this interpretation, the Buddha is depicted in the robes of a monk, surrounded by leaves representing the Bodhi tree that sheltered him as he meditated to attain liberation. His halo is painted very subtly, in the traditional colours of blue, yellow, red, white, orange and multi-colour. Because of the delicacy of the expression, some people have thought this was a feminine Buddha. May this image of the serene Lord Buddha help to bring peace to your home.
