About The Artwork

Original artwork inspired by the complexities of Africa, especially South Africa, and the analysis of the society and its different genders and cultures within multiple environments.

The richness of Africa such as its people, culture and land is represented by the Gold (metal leaf), one of the five predominant colors used in this series of artworks called "Africana".

I paint the people and animals of Africa, silhouettes from which I am introducing the different layers of abstraction and techniques.

The use of Gold leaf comes from spending my adolescence in the Florentine art world, while attending the National Institute of Art. I was strongly affiliated to the experience of sculpture through the work and career of my father. This experience enhanced my fascination with textured surfaces and the exploration thereof.

Giacomo Braccialarghe was born in Milan, Italy in 1968 and spent his first 6 years of his life in South Africa then returned to Italy. He studied and lived in Florence then migrated back to South Africa. Giacomo worked as Graphic designer, Web designer, 2D animator and illustrator for children's books. He also facilitated Multicultural Art Workshops for primary schools in Tuscany. Since 1993 Giacomo’s passion for painting and sculpture has led to his participation in many successful exhibitions in Italy and recently in South Africa. His painting are based on realistic human figures and are represented using an abstract style that reflects that of a Fine Graphic Artist. His interest is to represent the social-environment in any form, either evident or unspoken. Giacomo’s work is moving towards abandoning the realism of human figures, exploring the introspective representation of human society throughout the multiple layers of secrecy, loosing any form of realism that is still present in his work. His latest series "Africana" started in 2017.
