Ronan Bowes is an award winning contemporary Irish painter based in Omagh, Co. Tyrone, N. Ireland. Bowes’ current work is a mixture of constructed (life), deconstructed (death), and reconstructed (re-birth) studio materials; pigments, canvas, aluminium, steel, wood, paper, and various unusual materials are experimented with to create painted 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional forms that range from assembled objects, drawings, and paintings to interior and exterior installations. The life, death and rebirth of his studio materials are core thoughts during his process. Creating art for him, began and continues as a symbolic resource where autobiographical elements, considerations about society and art history find expression. He has worked both as an artist, educator and curator in the UK and abroad, extensively exhibited in Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Australia and USA. Awarded the James Bernard Haggarty Scholarship as a participating artist through The Canopy Program NYC, USA 2024 a year long studio intense mentorship program later exhibiting in the cohort group show ‘Ten by Night’ at The Canopy Gallery, NYC. ‘Decompression’ was a recent retrospective of his works on paper represented by Gallery 545 in Belfast, UK in 2022 as well as multiple group shows spotlighting contemporary art of Northern Ireland 2019-2026. Previous solo show ‘Don’t Shoot’ held at BSG Gallery, Melbourne Australia 2013. Selected artist Royale Arcade Academy Annual Open Call, Belfast, UK 2025, ‘Peripheries’ group show Gorey Art School, Wexford, Ireland 2019, Boyle Arts Festival, Roscommon, Ireland 2018 and 'Settling the Ghost' Standard Projects and Youngspace, Wisconsin, USA 2017. A winning artist selected by Hang Tough Gallery, Dublin Ireland, 2022 and Delphian Gallery, London, UK 2019. Featured artist through Irelands Homes, Interiors and Living magazine 2026, The Monthly through CAP Arts Centre, Belfast 2024, Art Maze Magazine 10th Anniversary Edition 2018 and peer reviews through Structure and Imagery, Ahtcast and Just Another Painter. Commissioned artist for Aintree University Hospitals ‘Superlambanana’ Capital of Culture project, Liverpool, UK 2008. Participating resident artist awarded a merit grant at Vermont Studio Centre, VT, USA 2020, other residencies include Lodestar Art School Limerick, Ireland 2018, Rockland Arts Centre, NY, USA 2016-18 and White Elephant Arts, Melbourne, Australia 2012. Bowes’ work is held in private collections internationally.
