About The Artwork

Painting on cotton canvas mounted on a frame, which in turn surrounds a 3 cm high natural wood strip around the entire perimeter of the frame and gives it a modern gallery style. The work was inspired by the experience of Madrid train and metro stations, busy and often impersonal places, where people become anonymous silhouettes in the middle of the crowd. I hope viewers feel the mysterious yet familiar atmosphere of these urban spaces. I want you to reflect on the loneliness and disconnection that is sometimes felt in the midst of the hustle and bustle of urban life. I chose the color blue to convey a feeling of distance and coldness, reflecting the idea of the impersonality of these places and highlighting the feeling that people can feel like "ghosts" in the middle of the crowd.

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and resident in Spain since the 80s. His studio is located in Madrid, where he has been working since then in different areas of visual arts, contemporary art, and illustration. He studied visual communication, advertising, scenery, and fine arts. He has worked with various publishers and magazines as an illustrator. He has exhibited work in various cities such as Buenos Aires, Madrid, Leon, Malaga, Toulouse, and New York. In recent years he has been working on different series of paintings, between figuration and abstraction, with the main sources of inspiration: mythology, dreams, landscape, and nature in general. In the captivating work of Carlos Villanueva, artistic expression comes to life through a humanist neofiguration that evokes deep and universal emotions. With an expressive technique that uses the palette knife and drag rule, as well as the influence of Pop Art, the artist achieves a masterful balance between figure and background, creating abstract compositions that explore the complexity of the human experience. The human figure, represented with sensitivity and passion, becomes the center of his visual narratives. Each gesture and expression captures the essence of the human condition, inviting the viewer to contemplate the full range of emotions and experiences that define our existence.
