About The Artwork
Woodcut and collage (2021) on paper, framed: wood frame. Part of the Achikanain series inspired by the shapes of the earth and depicting abtracted landscapes of Latinamerica. From space, we observe a brown austral stain carried by planet earth: a vast expanse of land where there’s not one degree of moisture. In Chile, the Atacama desert is perched 3000 meters above the sea. In vehement dryness, the majestic Andean range rises and her people with her. In inclement altitude, the peaks of her volcanoes touch the reaches of the universe. The transparency of Atacama’s nocturnal sky summons the astronomers of the world to build the world’s largest satellite on its dusty soils. From Chile’s skies, science wonders: where do we come from?

I am a Colombian artist living in Barcelona. Through art I have been able to connect with the landscapes and culture of my ancestors. I re-imagine Latin American art through historical figures, legends, landscapes and symbology inspired by the iconography of pre-Hispanic goldsmith masters. I am inspired by the revival of historical memory, the wisdom of indigenous cosmovisions and nature. My work frequently transforms landscapes into relief engravings with metallic colors that represent the mineral richness of the earth. For the last four years I have been managing Casa Jaguar /@casajaguar.studio/, an art studio in Barcelona where I collaborate with other Colombian audiovisual artists with whom I share my interest in developing a visual language that integrates pre-Hispanic art with contemporary art.
