About The Artwork

Dear Theo, I returned to my little room from the fields exhausted and weary and from working and chasing meddlesome urchins to your care package. Thanks especially for the Tiger balm, my dogs are aching :( Applying copius salve to my knees and ankles I spied a curious puddle of mercury pooled below my window. As I noticed it it seemed to notice me and its ripples teamed concentrically away from one another mocking stillness in a spinning lurch. When it collided with the base board it did spread along the length instead it climbed in a perpendicular ascent up the wall. Like I said I was tired before witnessing this but weariness gave way to arousal as I watched the pool stretch up the wallpaper elastically from floor to eye level. In its mercurial gleam I saw my own amazed visage beaming across the room. Theo I started to write just now, Here's the weird part as if there was one constituent in the event less weird than the next. You see I saw myself reflected in the wall mounted ooze but I also saw thru to the nightlit village beyond and, as usual brother, I felt "called". Amnesia in tandem with arousal prompted my advance toward the gleaming portal, through which, in that moment, I was determined to pass. Here's the real part, instead of allowing said passage the wall gave a definitive STOP to my advance. When I awoke I was here in the doctors kitchen propped in a rocking chair by the hearth. My head bandaged in wet gauze. His wife was singing, "All the Angels Come" quietly by the stove. The doctor said he had "x-rayed" my brain. Theo!? Have you heard about this?! A camera with see-through vision allowing medical professionals and inside view of people's bodies?! This is subliminal I thought. Have I awoken in the future? Can this be rural France? What next, self driving cars?! Anyway he showed me the pictures he had taken of my skull and I must not pretend I wasnt surprised because oh brother I dare say I was shocked at what I saw before me.... Instead of a hemispheric brain with lobes and crevices and globular prominence do you know what I beheld? Letters. Typefaces. Yes, calligraphy even. Words of all fonts and sizes crammed together stringing along run on sentences that even I in my most perseverating state of chatter and rumination could not fathom housed in one Dutch cranium. Understand Theo that the xray is a negative version of the image so, I guess, to 'see through' one must see in reverse or inverse or converse irregardless it ain't what or how we ordinarily see. Imagine closing your eyes quickly and seeing the ghost of what was just before them fading in a negative woodcut of itself. That's what I saw in my brain Bro! It was sick. Jeesh all that language stuck in there like the trolley at rush hour on the Champs-Élysées. I knew I had a screw loose but never thought I had a semiotic warehouse stored between my ears. I know your wife will say explains alot as shes taken issue with what to do with all the letters I send....speaking of the post there are a few items i need to get me through to the thaw. Enough chin music for now. With deepest affection, Vincent Send this shit directly to my flat. The postmaster complained that my p.o.box smelled of carne asada fries from your last, mucho generous cinco de mayo, parcel. Cat nip Nutmeg Abercrombie and Fitch spring catalogue(I know its February but I wanna get a jump on the gay season's apparel) Fire poker Anvil Agatha Christie compilation(Barnes and Nobles has these cheap) Turpenpid No.2 pencils Shearing scissors Wet rock Saltpeter Rock candy(the kind on a stick) Toga Form fitting pants(like black leggings) A string for my acoustic (not just any string but the actual A string.
