About The Artwork

Snakes was inspired by the climate activists currently causing a scene in galleries worldwide by smearing stuff on paintings and gluing themselves to them. It is a collaboration with Perth Indigenous activist Desmond Blurton who is part of the Disrupt Burrup group trying to stop the gas mining project off the coast of Western Australia. We use his snake in this work combined with the Exxon logo (one of the worlds finest polluters) to draw attention to the clash of Indigenous Aboriginal culture and lore with settler colonial multinational interests.
