I responded to the history of young women's roles and jobs in the Northwest of the USA where I reside. I created this piece as a part of the Wallpaper series referring to the red lamp houses where many women worked to entertain men. The women, girls were locked into small, airless rooms, thus they had no access to fresh air and to free associations with the rest of society. I used the grayish skin colors, the faded wall paper patterns and lethargic, submissive body language.
