Tons of periwinkle seashells wash up on the beach by my home, and I often go out to do beachcombing along the shoreline to see what I can find. This was a lovely blue little shell, that I picked up and brought back to my studio to paint.

Mary Hubley

About the Artist

Mary Hubley

United States

Mary Hubley is an award-winning American oil painter based in St. Augustine, Florida, known for her still life and landscape paintings. Her current focus is on quiet, atmospheric still life for galleries and collectors, while her broader body of work includes coastal subjects, landscapes, boats, and figures.

Hubley is drawn to ordinary objects and places that carry a sense of history and memory. Her still lifes often feature antique pottery, linens, shells, flowers, fruit, and other objects shaped by time and use. She is particularly interested in the way light reveals texture, creates atmosphere, and transforms familiar things into something more evocative.

Her paintings combine elements of classical realism with a contemporary atmospheric approach. Soft edges, restrained color, carefully considered values, and areas of suggestion allow the paintings to move beyond straightforward description toward a sense of stillness and memory.

Hubley's paintings have been juried into national exhibitions with Oil Painters of America (OPA), the American Impressionist Society (AIS), and the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society (NOAPS), where she holds Signature Status. Her work has appeared in American Art Collector, PleinAir Magazine, and Fine Art Connoisseur, and is held in private collections throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
