About The Artwork

The relationship between the United Kingdom and Europe, since joining the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1973, has always been characterized by uncertainties and second thoughts. I have always been a strong supporter of the European project and Brexit makes me really angry. This sentiment inspired this painting. I hope that the viewer will think about the consequences for both sides of such a radical and important split. I believe that the consequences will be negative for both Europe and United Kingdom. Customs duties will return between England and EU countries. The restoration of passports and customs controls will slow down transit of people and goods at borders, slowing down economy. In my opinion, it must be said that the European Union has not done much to reach an agreement with London. The EU adopted a punitive logic, suggested by a political motivation that wants above all to give an exemplary lesson to those who leave the Union. EU wants to be sure that no other country will copy UK. Thus on one side and on the other we end up an unjust war with an unjust Peace... I tried to represent this concept of tension painting the European flag being bitten by an English bulldog. I have also included a play on words where I replace F*ck with F*UK in clear reference to England. The girl represents the European Union which has made no concession to the United Kingdom to reach an agreement. All results in a situation of quarrel where no one wins. I chose for this painting the street art style, which I believe perfectly represents the contemporaneity of the theme. The colors I used on the canvas are those typical of graffiti done on the street, while the materials are acrylic colors, oil and spray paint.

Here, Mazezky embarked on a creative exploration, seamlessly melding the expressive flair of graffiti and street art with the timeless elegance of classical styles. Mazezky's canvas comes alive through the vivid interplay of acrylics, oils, and spray colors. These immediate and versatile mediums serve as the perfect conduits for their artistic vision, mirroring the simplicity of Mazezky's primary color palette, a symphony of primary hues. Mazezky's art delves into the core of compelling themes that resonate deeply—love, irony, dreams, pollution, and the stark realities of capitalism's façade. Over time, abstract expressionism has become the hallmark of Mazezky's creations, intertwined with a potent streak of conceptualism, aimed at eliciting thought-provoking reactions from those who engage with their work. In 2020, Mazezky embarked on a thrilling collaborative venture with LOPE, a talented painter hailing from Navarra. Together, they birthed the Equipo MALO project, pushing the boundaries of artistic expression, seamlessly merging the contrasting realms of street art and refined studio craftsmanship. Beyond creative pursuits, Mazezky embraces the responsibility to leave behind a visual testament to their journey on this planet. As a gesture of commitment, Mazezky pledges to donate 5% of earnings from each artwork sale to the UN World Food Program, contributing to its invaluable mission.
