About The Artwork

All my pieces are named after strong women I love. I want to celebrate the female form as it is - not how we are conditioned to believe it should be. Contact curator@saatchiart.com for custom prints, and to discuss sizing and framing options. Artworks are based on smaller sketches which are enlarged, and reworked with paint, charcoal and pastel to create a new original artwork. Lead times may vary depending on size.

British artist Lórien Haynes studied under Royal Academy of Art tutor Dilip Ur and after moving to LA in 2009, continued her work with Californian painter George Small.  She has had three successful solo shows UNBAREABLE at The Art Studio, Santa Monica barefacedcheek, at The Quest, Venice Did You See Her? @ Other, Hollywood. She has had a recent duo show in DTLA - Diss/embodied with Jared Hendler, exhibited as THE OTHER ART FAIR and was selected there to be profiled in 31 WOMEN - a curated selection of work by female artists. Her work also features in Amy Berg’s film Every Secret Thing. Known for her oversize charcoal nudes, Lórien combines a traditional figurative aesthetic with sculpted, three-dimensional movement and builds this over separate sheets, visibly taped. Tactile and visceral, her charcoals have been exhibited in London at The Haymarket and bought by The Saatchi Gallery.  Artistic Statement All my pieces are named after strong women I love. I want to celebrate the female form as it is - not how we are conditioned to believe it should be. My figures do not meet your gaze. They stand in their own right. Think their own thoughts. They are independent strong minded women. And this is a time to stand up and be counted. To fight for our planet, our bodies, our beliefs, our democratic rights. Whether you draw or write, or produce, or act – the choices we make – the votes we take, the material we create – is of vital importance now. One of the most important movements of the past year has been the sound of female and male voices speaking out against abuse. We still have a long way to go, but until then a percentage of all my profits will be donated to RISE
