“Protection” explores the ambivalence of protection, strength, and dependence. In a reduced, one-line design language, two figures appear that seem both separate and inseparable—as if they were two states of a single being. The dominant character wears a mask- and armor-like shell. His posture appe...

Contact us.Uomo Nero is the artistic persona of German interdisciplinary artist Christoph Czarnetzke.
Working at the intersection of painting, sculpture, and performative presence, Uomo Nero explores the psychological and symbolic structures that shape human experience.
His practice moves through themes of ritual, shadow, transformation, and inner conflict, creating works that function less as images and more as mirrors.
Rendered in a reduced black-and-white visual language, his compositions dissolve the boundary between figure and environment. Bodies merge, fragment, and recombine into hybrid beings that embody opposing forces: strength and fragility, protection and control, freedom and dependence. These archetypal forms invite viewers to confront both personal and collective subconscious narratives.
The persona “Uomo Nero” — the man in black — is not a disguise but a vessel. Through mask, performance, and symbolic staging, the artist removes the biographical self to focus on something universal. The work becomes ritualistic: each piece a quiet ceremony, each line a trace of inner negotiation.
Rather than offering fixed interpretations, Uomo Nero creates spaces for reflection. His works ask questions instead of delivering answers — encouraging viewers to engage with their own memories, fears, and desires.
