I created this piece when I received my first pneumatic hammer. I used a very soft stone to deepen my understanding of the structure of fabric folds and curves. I wanted to learn how to express softness and lightness using a material that is by definition hard and heavy; I wanted to understand how t...

Caroline (b. Paris) is a sculptor working in stone, plaster, and bronze. By focusing both on carving techniques and on the properties of the different materials that she uses, she creates beautiful, tranquil compositions that defy our expectation and challenge our perception of the materials employed. Caroline’s sculptures are inspired by classical paintings from the 16th to the 19th century, from Titian, to Rubens to Leighton. She replicates the gestures of the figures by transcribing first into fabric, and then into alabaster, marble, limestone, bronze or plaster the movement of the air visible through the draperies that animate these works. Caroline developed a painting practice while working as a toy designer, acquiring perspective, construction skills and an interest in colour theory. She then moved into ceramics while living in Hong Kong, taking up two residencies in Jingdezhen, China, developing her understanding of shape, volume and space. This body of knowledge and skill informed her eventual move into sculpture, joining the Graduate Diploma programme at City and Guilds of London Art School, where she was awarded a distinction 2 years in a row. Soon after her graduation in 2024, Caroline’s work was selected for a group show at Bowman Sculpture Gallery, followed by a solo show with the Crème Fraîche Program. Caroline’s works have been acquired by private collectors in the US and UK.
