Hassine Fenn, born in Dermech, part of the ancient region of Carthage (modern-day Tunisia), has long been inspired by the myths and history surrounding his homeland. Raised among the ruins of one of history’s most powerful civilizations, Fenn’s art reflects a deep connection to the ancient world. His works often bridge the past and present, using a combination of oil painting and unconventional materials such as coffee sacks—symbolizing the transference of culture through trade and migration. Fenn’s exploration of the diaspora of Carthage is embodied in The Birth of Tanit, a series that traces the goddess’s legacy from the shores of North Africa to the Balearic islands of Ibiza, where she continued to be worshipped.
