ABOUT THE ARTWORK

' PALM' is a mixed-media artwork that breathes new life into recycled materials. Fragments of red plastic bottles are embedded in reclaimed cardboard, painted in pale pink, forming the textured silhouette of a coconut palm. The striking contrast between the vibrant reds and the soft pink background evokes the intersection of nature and human impact. This piece reflects a commitment to sustainability, transforming everyday objects into a meditation on resilience and renewal. Perfect for lovers of eco-friendly art, ' PALM ' brings a bold, tropical touch to any contemporary space. 30 cm x 30 cm x 5 cm

I am a French visual artist based near La Rochelle, France, with Congolese roots from my father. At the very end of 2023, I returned from nearly three years spent in Guadeloupe. I lived there immersed in an environment of incredible beauty and richness, lush and full of color. The shapes of the waves and textures of the seaweed, the undulations of foliage in the wind, the shadows cast by coconut palm fronds on the sand, the marine depths, the colors, the light... my imagination has been nourished by all of this for almost three years, and it is fragments of these images and the emotions associated with them that I try to capture in my works, in my own way. Additionally, from a very young age, I cultivated my interest in shapes, materials, textures, and patterns by consuming design and fashion content. As a child of the 90s, I carry with me the pop and colorful aesthetic of that decade. The omnipresence of plastic in my works is also a reference to those not-so-distant times when ecological awareness didn’t rise above sea level. Even today, plastic is produced in astronomical quantities, disregarding what, in my view, is most essential, precious, and fundamental: the biodiversity of our planet. Using reclaimed materials is, for me, a natural choice and the foundation of my work. Thus, the message of my artwork is conveyed as much through the medium as through the form. Initially, I used recovered packaging to make decorative objects, like vases, then I developed an original technique of embedding that I continue to evolve in my work.
