Contact us.Sašo Vrabič is a visual artist whose work reflects on contemporary life through figural scenes and portraits grounded in painterly precision. While classical painting remains a vital point of departure in his practice, he continuously expands its possibilities by combining photorealist imagery with text, collage, graffiti-like interventions, and abstract gestures. Working in the fields of painting, printmaking, and music, he has developed a distinctive visual language marked by humour, playfulness, and a sharp sensitivity to the contradictions of accelerated life.
Vrabič draws on everyday situations, fleeting encounters, banal moments, and images circulating through popular and mass media. Through strong light contrasts, layered compositions, and an almost cinematic atmosphere, he transforms familiar scenes into psychologically charged reflections on intimacy, communication, consumerism, and the visual codes of contemporary society. His art also comments on the shifting relationship between the human being and technological development, examining how digital mediation, image hyperproduction, and contemporary lifestyles reshape perception, behaviour, and interpersonal relations. Balancing irony with emotional resonance, his works reveal the tensions between immediacy and alienation, presence and simulation, within the visual culture of the present.
His works are held in numerous public and private collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Ljubljana, UGM Maribor Art Gallery, the Carinthian Gallery of Fine Arts, Velenje Gallery, and Nova Gorica City Gallery. His recent recognitions include the Honorary Award at Visual Stories by Open House Europe in Ireland in 2025, a research grant from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia in 2020, and The Rembrandt Experience award by Talens and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam in 2019. He has also completed studio residencies in Vienna, London, and Berlin. His work has been presented at international art fairs, including Art Market Budapest, Budapest, Hungary and Nesvrstani, Zagreb, Croatia. Vrabič lives and works in Ljubljana.
