Contact us.Deborah Sibony is a Berkeley, California–based artist whose work explores the shifting boundaries between nature and human intervention. Drawn to landscapes in transition, she investigates places marked by construction, erosion, abandonment, and renewal—environments that hold traces of time, memory, and human presence.
Working primarily with unique mixed-media monotypes, Sibony combines ink, drawing, photographic transfers, and collage to create layered images that move between abstraction and recognition. Her process embraces both intention and chance; through the accumulation, transformation, and erasure of marks, familiar landscapes become atmospheric spaces that evoke impermanence and the passage of time.
Born in Italy to a family of North African heritage, Sibony draws on a cultural sensibility shaped by Mediterranean light, pattern, and a lifelong engagement with place. Her work reflects an ongoing interest in what we build, what disappears, and what remains in the landscape and in our consciousness.
Alongside her printmaking practice, Sibony creates collaborative artist books that extend her exploration of landscape, water, and the expressive possibilities of paper. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in public, university, and private collections.
