Contact us.Originating back to the mid-1800’s with Japanese fishermen this form of print making has a rich history of its own. Gyotaku is the process of printing real fish by applying ink to the fish and pressing it onto various types of cloth, or rice paper. Originally done only on rice paper these days artist Bryan Hasz and his assistant (son Ryker) do things a little differently. Bryan likes to experiment by printing on different types of fabrics. Inking a real fish and
pressing that fish is an extremely messy process. However, it is done with the best of intentions to keep it as clean as possible. But often you will find small imperfections in the prints which lead us to affectionately call them “dirty prints”. All fish are either locally caught by Bryan & Ryker or are responsibly sourced from the Cortez Fishing Village. Each print is an individual in a limited number of a series for each fish printed. Making each print truly one of a kind.
