As an embroidery artist, I challenge the traditional boundaries of textile art by transforming thread and fabric into sculptural forms that embody the tension between fragility and permanence, life and death. My work draws deeply from the symbolism of ancient cultures, mummification rituals, and the metaphysical journey between the physical and spiritual worlds. I aim to elevate embroidery beyond decorative craft, crafting it into a narrative medium capable of evoking complex emotional responses and intellectual exploration. Each piece I create is a meditative journey, where every stitch becomes a passage through time, echoing rituals of preservation and transformation. By blending upcycled materials with traditional techniques such as goldwork and raised embroidery, I transcend the perception of embroidery as flat and ornamental, giving it dynamic, three-dimensional form. My art explores the beauty of impermanence, drawing inspiration from the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi, where broken elements are repaired with visible seams that honour resilience, transformation, and renewal. Through my sculptural works, I strive to bridge the gap between tradition and contemporary expression, intertwining historical references with modern narratives of sustainability and rebirth. Each imperfection is intentional, serving as a testament to the human condition, where embroidery becomes a living story—one that speaks of memory, mortality, and our eternal yearning to transcend the material and embrace the spiritual.
