Melkzedk Gapi (MelGenius) is a conceptual photographer based in Abbotsford, British Columbia. His work blends symbolic storytelling with contemporary visual aesthetics, exploring themes of identity, transformation, and cultural memory. Originally from Tanzania, Gapi’s artistic voice is shaped by his East African heritage and his experiences living and working across multiple countries.
He gained national recognition in 2019 when he received Tanzania’s Best Photographer of the Year (People’s Choice Award). In 2025, he was nominated by the Ghana Merit Awards as one of the Best Emerging Photographers in Africa, further establishing his presence in the continental art scene. That same year, he held a successful solo commercial exhibition in Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital, attracting collectors and expanding his international audience.
Gapi works with DSLR and mirrorless systems, studio lighting, and advanced digital post production techniques. His practice spans fine art conceptual photography, commercial projects, and print sales through his online shop. As a Canadian Permanent Resident, he continues to develop his artistic career through exhibitions, collaborations, and creative exploration.
