Dawn breaking over this stunning rural view. As the sun rises, a soft light is cast over the trees in the distance, with light catching open areas in the mid ground, and seeping through the branches. The foreground is still plunged in darkness, awaiting the full heat of the day. This etching was created after an inspiring trip to Kerela, India. One early morning we visited Periyar Wildlife Reserve, set amongst the spice growing region and green slopes of the Cardamom Hills. We arrived to see the sun rising revealing this fabulous landscape. A complex aquatint etching, involving many stages to make, on a zinc plate. This is a hand made etching and aquatint with each print being inked up and wiped individually. The zinc plate is selectively protected using wax and other substances to 'protect' areas, then dipped in acid over various stages to create holes that 'grip' the ink. The ink is then carefully rubbed over the plate and wiped off selectively, then placed on the 'bed' of an etching press, which is wound to press the soft etching paper onto the inked plate, creating the printed image. Each inking is stlightly different and each print is therefore unique. A limited edition print of just 25. * Shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition * The edition is numbered, titled and signed on the front. Certificate of authenticity included. Lizzie Butler is an expressive, semi abstract artist, who works in a contemporary style in oil. Her strong spatial awareness and a passion for working en plein air, inform her practice and lead to paintings that recreate the intangible atmosphere found in landscapes and the peaceful silence of nature. Most of her paintings are begun outside and completed in her London studio. Although working primarily in oil, Lizzie also enjoys the physicality of exploring etching with zinc and steel plates, to create intaglio prints. Lizzie Butler's artwork has been exhibited at Leighton House Museum, Kensington, London, The Russell Gallery, London, and several other Galleries. Lizzie's paintings can be found in collections in America, New Zealand, the UK and across Europe, with several customers returning to buy further paintings and place commissions.
