I was thinking of the pleasures of faraway travel that I used to take for granted before. How one could pick a beautiful sport under the sun and just go where the sea meets the sky. It's minus 30 degrees Celsius in Calgary on this winter day, and I'm dreaming of a tropical getaway. This piece is all about it: the sun and the sea, the colors of bright sarongs and swimsuits, beach necklaces, tropical birds (I've got two parrots from a vintage necklace incorporated in this artwork) reminding me that I'm in paradise.

The artwork is comprised of paper beads handmade from magazine cutouts, secured with acrylic sealer, vintage beads and buttons of all sorts and kinds in plastic, metal, glass, semi-precious stones, and other materials. The larger shapes are made from plastic waste wrapped in paper and painted; also sealed with several layers of acrylic sealer.

Lines in this artwork are bendable and would respond to your mood and feeling; you can alter this artwork to your heart's desire. You can also suspend the artwork from different angles and change its orientation. Steel wire of various gauge is used for the structure of the artwork. It hangs on pushpins, but you may prefer steel anchors, if you like.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This piece is about the sun and the sea, the colours of bright sarongs and tropical blooms, beach necklaces, tropical birds (I've got two parrots from a vintage necklace incorporated in this artwork). The artwork is comprised of paper beads handmade from magazine cutouts, secured with acrylic sealer, vintage beads and buttons of all sorts and kinds in plastic, metal, glass, semi-precious stones, and other materials. The larger shapes are made from recycled plastic collaged with paper and painted; also sealed with several layers of acrylic sealer. Lines in this artwork are bendable and would respond to your mood and feeling; you can alter this artwork to your heart's desire. You can also suspend the artwork from different angles and change its orientation. An amazing design solution would be to suspend this artwork from the ceiling, in a canopy style. Steel wire of various gauge is used for the structure of the artwork. The sculpture hangs on pushpins, but you may prefer steel anchors, if you like.

Poetry, music, rebellion, femininity, humour and wonder of my world reveal themselves in images, both soft and hard, always mysterious, always in layers of meaning. My stories emerge like flowers opening up their petals, one at a time, as I try to bring to light all the facets of a certain moment in time, of a beautiful memory. But in the end, or in the beginning, it's all about love. I explore painting as a connection to our human vulnerability, of which love is its ultimate manifestation.
