I’m Beverley Williams, an artist and graphic designer based on the Wirral. I studied Graphic Design and Fine Art at the University of Chester from 2009 to 2013, exploring drawing, conceptual art, sculpture, textiles and installation. That mix still influences how I work today: I enjoy the simplicity of graphic design, but I want there to be something personal beneath the image.
After university, I spent years running my own design business. Working with layout, typography and illustration developed my eye for colour and composition. My current work brings those skills back to the ideas and emotional questions that first interested me in fine art.
Much of my work comes from my own family life, growing up observing relationships and learning to adapt. I explore emotional distance, intimacy, instability and the things we find difficult to say. Houses, rooms, stairs and ordinary domestic objects appear often because familiar surroundings can hold complicated feelings. A home can offer comfort, but it can also feel isolating or restrictive.
I work digitally, combining clean shapes, unexpected colours and surreal imagery with softer textures. I’m drawn to images that seem simple at first, then reveal something more unsettling or familiar. I hope people find their own experiences in the work, rather than feeling there is only one way to understand it.
